Boys Need Adventure

Boys need adventure! Healthy, safe, fun adventure. When they have these outlets in life it teaches them how to create healthy adventure and they go looking for it less, in unhealthy ways. Hiking the Subway in Zion National Park was the perfect fit for creating adventure in my boys' lives! I adore them! I love being a boy mom and loved learning about this simple principle. I hope you love learning about it for your boys!

A long time ago I read about how much boys, in particular, crave adventure and that by creating it with them they don’t have a burning desire to create it in negative or harmful ways. 🤔 What do you think? Have you found that to be true?

Anniversary Idea

Snapseed 43.JPG

🥂 Yesterday we celebrated our twentieth anniversary! We spent the day on the beach with our kids and then took them to dinner and told them “our story.” So. Many. Feels. So many details they never knew. I am so happy that they can learn so much just by knowing our story. So much they can learn about us AND about life & girls. 😆

It really is so amazing to share YOUR story with your kids. It’s so good for them to hear the stories of the building blocks that lay the foundation of their parents relationship AND it is so good to be reminded of all your first emotions. 💥 ♥️
I love our story @jake.mckittrick I happily choose another 20. ❌⭕️❌⭕️

Return Of Your Childs Love

🌺 Happy Mother’s Day to all women! To all who nurture and mother. It is one of the most fulfilling roles of my life. What a fantastic gift to love and care for a child and to feel their love returned for you. Even if you are in years where you are questioning that return of love, keep giving it, remember the days and moments when it was unquestionable to get you through. It is love that always wins and pulls them back to you. Keep giving the best we have to give! Love actively and extravagantly, life is better that way. Wishing you all the best day ever!

Human Interaction

I just finished a book that talked a lot about the dangers of what happens in our life when media consumption exceeds human interaction. ⁣⠀
You don't need to know all the risks, though the book was actually a fantastic read, just pay attention, especially to your kids. Count yourself winning when you know that their human interaction is exceeding their media exposure! ⁣⠀
It did mention that content matters but according to the book the amount of the content matters more. ⁣⠀
*The book is called The Gift of Fear. It was a great read with the focus being on how the feeling of fear is such a great gift if we learn to how to use it. I would especially say it's most important for young women to read, to learn how to protect themselves, though it's fantastic and educational for everyone. It's just info I wish I had back in my early college years. You know what I'm sayin?

Kids & Electronics

Anyone else feel like a drill sergeant or a hall monitor with all the electronics? It may be my least favorite roll as a Mom.

A week and a half ago I made this basket and told my kiddos that for a minute, electronics were only going to be used for homework. I told them that they had to check their device out of the basket and sit by me while using it, just because we were getting to the point of overuse. I feel like a weight has been lifted from me this week. It’s like I found my kids again and they are figuring out other things to do. I love it.

It really is one of the most interesting things, parenting in this new arena. There are so many different ways to do it. I love the insight that I have gotten from @collinkartchner on this topic. I love the voice he is lending in this area! You can check him our here.

Children Are Our Most Important Work

“Children are not a distraction from more important work, they are the most important work.” -C.S. Lewis

I’m making this my mantra! This is also what my heart tells me but I have to be reminded when flooded with what life has in store on the daily! Anyone else?

I just had the pleasure of watching all my boys play in a soccer tournament. I am sitting back, in awe at the pleasure it was to see them doing what they love so much. This is one of life’s greatest gifts, being a parent!

Video: Teach Your Kids To Clean Counters & Floors

Snapseed 80.jpg

Do you want a simple and easy way to teach your kids how to clean the kitchen? This is a fantastic trick that gives kids a visual when it comes to cleaning the counters and sweeping the floors.

I have heard that you have to teach a child 7 times to clean a specific area. 7 times! That is a lot, it takes a minute for them to get it! So be patient and do things like this! It will help them learn so much faster, plus it's not much time on your part! Best of luck teaching how to get things spick and span!
