Yoga begs you to find more balance, literally and figuratively. ⁣

Yesterday in my yoga class @lilmisslisajean talked to us about communication and how oft times we forget the listening side of communication. We see it show up in our conversations with others and we also see it show up in forgetting to listen to ourselves, our bodies & our spirits. She encouraged us to be quiet and listen.⁣⠀
Being quiet allows for more reverence and awe. It allows the space we need for the messages that are for us. Such a great reminder. Thank you Lisa @behotyoga

I Found Yoga When I Was 29

I was 29 when I found yoga. 9 months prior to finding yoga I had gotten in a car accident. My neck & back were so messed up that I couldn’t handle the regular noise my kids would make. Even the simple move of driving and looking side to side was challenging. I would wake up in the night from the pain. I iced, went to the chiropractor and rubbed all sorts of ointments on my neck. It was a long road. After nine months of care it improved but not back to normal. It still ached.

It was then that I started yoga. I didn’t start it with the intention to help my neck. I just started because it felt good and I knew it was a great thing to do BUT what resulted for me was being able to completely return to pre-accident health. It was amazing.

Since then yoga has always been a part of my life. I didn’t realize then all that it would bring me. It helps keep me young, it puts my body back in alignment if I am off, it has helped become less reactive, and more in tune and present to life outside of my own two eyes. It’s just kind of what makes me feel complete.

Yoga is like that. Because it requires us to be present with ourselves, we also receive mind benefits (OR in other words LIFE LESSONS) in addition to physical benefits.

Because it has this kind of an impact Alo Gives started a program to help people find yoga at a younger age. This is thrilling to me!

It’s a free scholastic program designed for the classroom or at home with fun 5-minute videos that introduce kids to the mental & physical skills needed for social and emotional learning.

So you can just go to their website to find a treasure trove of short videos to start introducing kids to yoga. WHAT A FANTASTIC RESOURCE! Thank you @alogives

Healthy Hot Chocolate

FullSizeRender 5.jpg

8 oz almond milk

1 Tbl cacoa powder

1 Tbl maca powder

1 1/2 Tbl honey

Heat almond milk and add the rest of the ingredients. Then mix with a milk frother if you have one (they are the best and super cheap to pick up and it makes the biggest difference!) Then sit and enjoy!

8 oz almond milk

1 1/2 Tbl Chatfield’s carob powder

1 1/2 Tbl honey

Same instructions as above! Heat the milk, add ingredients and mix with a milk frother! It’s a little different in taste. I keep both on hand and mix it up.

(The complete truth is that the carob powder is better for you and tastes fabulous but sometimes you just really want that chocolatey taste and in that case I go for the cocoa!) Cheers

Pistachio Beet Wow Salad

Snapseed 6.jpg

This dish has a place in my heart and on my table about once a week! I love it so much and I am hoping you enjoy it as well!

6 large beets

2 cups quinoa

Greens - I like a blend of spring mix and arugula

Goat cheese

White balsamic vinegar

Olive oil

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Wash, peel and chop beets. Line a 9x13 pan with tinfoil allowing enough tinfoil on the edges to wrap up over the top of the beets to form a tent. Place beets in tinfoil drizzle with 2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar and a little salt. Bake for 40 minutes or until beets are tender.

Meanwhile, prepare quinoa according to directions & chop greens. When the quinoa and beets are finished layer quinoa, beets, greens, goat cheese (crumbled) & pistachios. Then drizzle with white balsamic vinegar and olive oil and salt to taste. Enjoy!

Red Lentil Curry WOW Bowl

Snapseed 4.jpg

3 tablespoons avocado oil

1 large onion

2 garlic cloves

2 tablespoon tomato paste

2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoon curry

1 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

9 cups chicken broth

2 cups red lentils

4 large carrot, peeled and diced

Chop onion and mince garlic. In a large pot, heat 3 tablespoons oil over high heat until hot and shimmering. Add onion and garlic, and sauté until golden, about 4 minutes.

Stir in tomato paste, cumin, salt, curry, turmeric, and sauté for 2 minutes longer. Add broth, lentils and carrot. Allow mixture to simmer, then partially cover pot and turn heat to medium-low. Simmer until lentils are soft, about 20 minutes. Taste and add salt or any of the other seasonings if you desire a stronger flavor.

Using an immersion or regular blender, purée half the soup then add it back to pot. This should thicken the soup while still leaving it chunky. This soup is delicious paired with a salad and could also be served over rice. So good and really good for you as well! I love it when they both win!

Video Series: Meditation!

Mediataion pic.png

In this video Jasher, one of my yoga gurus, explains the benefits of mediation. He explains the benefits to help us understand what we can gain from meditating.

This is a two-part series. This first video is about the benefits of meditation and the second one is about how to meditate. You can find that video below.

To see more from Jasher go to

I also had a few other guests in this video!

Natalie Lynn with The Ripe Ruin

Kyle & Makenna Gott with Gott Love

They will share with you what they think about this meditation event on their own channel. Natalie sat down with Jasher to learn how about fear and mediation, why people are afraid of sitting with themselves and how to approach meditation if that is true for you. The Gott's will give you a real-life look at the behind the scenes and some insight to how they feel about being introduced to meditation.

Learn how to meditate with us! Jasher walks us through how to meditate and helps us understand some of the fundamental elements of meditation. There is so much power in meditation, it is life altering. It is totally worth your time to learn this art!

Great Music for meditation.
